Madar (Nouakchott) - The Minister of the Interior, Promotion of Decentralisation and Local Development, Mokhtar Ould Ahmed Boussif, on Saturday chaired a meeting at the ministry headquarters devoted to following up the implementation of decisions and directives on cleanliness in Nouakchott, and to reviewing the results of the field evaluation of the performance of the ARMA cleaning company and its compliance with the terms of its contract.

The meeting, attended by Minister Delegate Yacoub Ould Salem Vall, reviewed the action plans submitted by the three walis (governors) of Nouakchott, including measures and proposals to address the shortcomings recorded in cleanliness, strengthen waste collection, transport and disposal, and ensure regular services across the capital's moughataas (districts).

It also reviewed the results of the field evaluation of ARMA's performance, the extent to which it has met its contractual obligations, its response to the observations made and the steps taken to correct shortcomings, as well as options to ensure the continuity of cleaning services in Nouakchott.

The interior minister stressed the need to move to practical solutions for the existing shortcomings, tighten coordination between the walis and the services concerned, mobilise available logistical resources and equipment, and step up field monitoring and follow-up, in order to achieve tangible results in neighbourhoods across the capital.

He underlined the importance of continuing to evaluate the company's performance on the basis of its contractual commitments and the results recorded on the ground, and of taking appropriate measures to ensure regular, effective and uninterrupted cleaning services.

At the close of the meeting, the minister said the implementation of the adopted action plans and measures must be followed up and continuously evaluated, with the necessary steps taken to correct shortcomings, with a view to establishing a sustainable and effective cleanliness system that meets the requirements of improving the capital's urban landscape.
