Madar (Nouakchott) - The governor of Guidimakha region, Dahmane Ould Beirouck, oversaw on the evening of Sunday, October 18, 2026, the distribution of food, shelter and cash aid to 183 families hit by rains and floods in the village of Zira Dem Dem, in Lahraj district of Ould Yenge department. About 20 of the families lost their homes, the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI) reported.
The governor told the agency the visit aimed to assess damage to Zira Dem Dem and the locality of Lahraj during the rainy season, adding that the aid was provided on the president's instructions.
The aid, distributed under the supervision of the Food Security Commission (CSA), included tents, bedding, blankets and food, as well as cash assistance.
The governor said the situation of residents affected by water infrastructure works would be examined as soon as possible and that efforts would be made to improve the village's water supply, notably by connecting it to a nearby locality's network.
Authorities distributed food and shelter aid earlier this month to 200 rain-affected families in Assaba region, and in September to 37 families in Gorgol.
