Mauritania's National Assembly on Thursday hosted a dialogue between adolescent girls and a number of MPs, organised jointly with the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) under the "Banat" programme, which aims to strengthen girls' participation in public debate.
The meeting covered four main themes: education, health, protection and participation. The girls set out their concerns and the challenges they face and discussed with the MPs proposals on their rights, living conditions and future.
The meeting aims to bring girls' views to decision-makers and draw on them in setting priorities and developing policies on the rights of children and girls in Mauritania.
Officials from the National Assembly and the government and UNICEF representatives took part, as the International Day of the Girl was being marked.
