Madar (Nouakchott) - The Council of the European Union has raised the European Peace Facility assistance measure supporting Mauritania's armed forces to 28 million euros, an increase of 8 million, and extended it to March 23, 2030, under a decision adopted in Luxembourg on October 26, 2026 and published in the EU Official Journal on October 27.
The decision says the Political and Security Committee endorsed on May 28, 2026 the reallocation of funds available in 2026, including an 8 million euro increase for the measure, and that "complementary support, including naval technical assistance" requires extending it by 24 months, from March 24, 2028 to March 23, 2030, bringing its duration to sixty months from its original adoption.
The Council first adopted the measure on March 24, 2025 with 20 million euros to fund mobile land surveillance equipment for the army and a second patrol boat for the navy, the Agence Europe bulletin reported at the time.
It is the third such measure for Mauritania, after 12 million euros in December 2022 and 15 million euros in July 2024, bringing the three measures to a combined 55 million euros after this increase.
