Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's Minister of Culture, Arts, Communication and Relations with Parliament, government spokesman Mohamed Ould Bebana, pledged to continue implementing what he called President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani's "historic" decision to settle the status of contract staff in public media, the independent Alakhbar agency reported on Monday evening, November 2, 2026.
Speaking to the media during a visit to Radio Mauritanie, Ould Bebana said all the consequences of this regularisation "will continue to be delivered to workers and media institutions" so that these institutions are "at their best," stressing the government's commitment to improving the performance of media institutions and strengthening their role in serving the country and its citizens.
He added that the visit was an opportunity to see the efforts made by the radio's staff and the challenges and needs they raised.
On Monday, the minister also visited the Mauritanian Institute for Research and Training in Heritage and Culture, where he heard a presentation by its director general, Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Jelal Ould Talba, on its role in collecting, documenting and preserving the national heritage and on its research and training work, according to the Mauritanian News Agency.
He toured the manuscripts service, where he followed the stages of their processing from reception to digitisation and cataloguing, then the digitisation service and the historical and literary studies service, before meeting the institute's staff, who raised their concerns about working conditions, challenges and the needs for improving performance.
