The National Youth Secretariat of the Front for Citizenship and Justice (FCJ, "Jamaa") has expressed support for higher-education students in Mauritania, calling for university transport fares to be reviewed in line with their financial situation.
In a statement, the secretariat called for serious talks with student representatives and their unions, and for better grant, housing and catering services, stressing respect for union freedoms and rejecting violence in dealing with student protests.
It said university problems must be addressed through dialogue and consultation, in a way that guarantees students' rights and contributes to the stability of educational institutions.
