Madar (Tripoli) - Libya's Ministry of Transport announced on Monday, October 26, 2026, the cancellation of precautionary restrictions and warnings on the use of Libyan airspace issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in 2015 during the country's war, Lebanese daily Annahar reported, citing Reuters.
The Tripoli-based ministry said the decision was formally issued on October 23 and announced by ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar at the opening of a meeting of Middle East civil aviation directors general in Doha. It said the move reflects recent progress and confidence in Libya's civil aviation and will be circulated to the organization's 193 member states.
In a separate statement, the ministry said registered overflight permits for the 2026-2027 winter season total 61,968 flights a month from November, compared with an average of about 2,000 transit flights a month in the 2025-2026 season. The figures refer to registered permits, not flights actually operated.
The ministry said the expected increase would bring additional revenue to the public treasury and require further improvements in readiness and operational efficiency to handle the traffic, the same source said.
