Madar (Tripoli) - Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced on Sunday, October 25, 2026, that the Brega refinery of the Sirte Oil and Gas Production and Manufacturing Company had resumed operations after a long shutdown, the Libyan News Agency (LANA) reported.

The NOC said on its website that the refinery had undergone a major overhaul, including replacement of the catalyst, an upgrade of its control systems and the construction of a new, modern control room.

Brega is Libya's oldest oil refinery. Built in 1962, it has a capacity of about 10,000 barrels per day, giving it strategic importance in the Libyan energy sector, the agency said.

The announcement did not say when the refinery stopped operating or for how long.
