France's Foreign Ministry on Thursday renewed its warnings against travel to Libya, keeping the capital Tripoli and most of the country in the red, high-risk category because of continuing security threats.

According to the latest update to its travel advice, the ministry moved the cities of Benghazi, Misrata and Sirte out of the red category into orange, while advising against travel there except when strictly necessary.

The French ministry attributed the warnings to continuing risks of armed clashes, kidnappings and violent crime, and cautioned against moving around Libyan territory given the fragile security situation.
