Madar (Algiers) - Algeria's 2027 finance bill earmarks about 894.8 billion dinars in commitment authorisations for the water sector, up 141% on 2026, Water Minister Lounes Bouzegza told the finance and budget committee of the National People's Assembly on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, according to the daily Ennahar.

Payment credits for the sector total about 697.4 billion dinars (+31%), while commitment authorisations for investment amount to about 778 billion dinars, or 87% of the total.

The funds are to cover 388 new investment operations and the revaluation of 63 ongoing ones, with investment payment credits of about 580.6 billion dinars, the minister said.

The increase mainly targets strategic structural projects, including downstream connections for the seawater desalination plants in Chlef, Mostaganem and Tlemcen. The minister cited rising demand for water driven by urban expansion, new towns and the needs of agriculture and industry.

Investment programmes cover water mobilisation and security, drinking and industrial water supply, irrigation, and sanitation and environmental protection.
