Madar (Algiers) - Stellantis Algeria on Sunday, October 25, 2026, asked owners of six Opel models to "stop driving immediately" and have their Takata airbags replaced free of charge, Algerian news site TSA reported.
The models concerned are the Astra H, Astra J, Cascada, Meriva B, Mokka and Zafira C produced between 2008 and 2017.
Owners are asked to call the dedicated number 024 88 05 61 to book an appointment with an authorized repairer. They can also check whether their vehicle is affected on Opel Algeria's website using the vehicle identification number.
Stellantis said the chemical components of Takata airbags can deteriorate over time, especially in hot and humid conditions, and that in a crash the inflator may rupture with excessive force, which in the worst cases could cause serious or fatal injuries.
The group apologized for the inconvenience and said its teams were working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. The announcement did not say how many vehicles in Algeria are affected.
