Madar (Algiers) - An investigating judge at the national criminal pole against terrorism and transnational organised crime of the Sidi M'hamed court in Algiers on Thursday, October 29, 2026, remanded ten people in custody in a case involving the seizure of 2.4 million psychotropic tablets, according to a prosecutor's statement reported by news site TSA.
According to the statement, the case followed a preliminary investigation by the national police's central service against illicit trafficking in drugs and psychotropic substances, which dismantled an organised criminal group of 15 people. Ten were caught in the act, and the identities of the five others, who are on the run, have been established.
Some 2.4 million 300 mg pregabalin tablets found in the possession of those arrested were seized, the same source said, without giving the place or date of the seizure.
The suspects face charges of illicit import, transport, transit, storage and possession of psychotropic substances for trafficking within a transnational criminal organisation undermining national security and public order, aggravated smuggling threatening public security and health, and organised money laundering.
