Madar (Dakar) - Senegal has mobilised 30 ambulances and identified more than 600 health professionals to provide medical cover for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, scheduled from 31 October to 13 November, Le Soleil and SeneNews reported on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, citing the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene.

The ministry carried out a field visit on Tuesday to six sites between Diamniadio and Mbour via Blaise Diagne International Airport: the Abdoulaye Wade stadium, the Olympic village polyclinic, the Diamniadio Children's Hospital, the airport's epidemiological surveillance unit, the Urgence 24 emergency service in Mbour and the Mbour hospital centre.

The plan relies on coordination between medical posts at competition venues, emergency services, ambulances and reference hospitals. The Diamniadio Children's Hospital, designated as the official Games hospital, has had its technical facilities upgraded, while the public health establishment in Mbour has been brought up to standard.

Epidemiological surveillance has been stepped up at border posts and entry points, bulletins are shared regularly, and simulation exercises, including a full-scale drill, were held at the Diamniadio Children's Hospital. The national supply pharmacy (SEN-PNA) is distributing medicines and supplies to the venues, and a dedicated electronic patient record has been set up for the Games.
