Madar (Abidjan) - Senegalese Prime Minister Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo on Monday, 19 October 2026 called in Abidjan for faster implementation of the cooperation agreements between his country and Cote d'Ivoire, through clear targets, set deadlines and a rigorous follow-up mechanism, the Senegalese Press Agency (APS) reported, citing the Ivorian news agency.
"It is up to us to ensure that the commitments made actually translate into concrete achievements, with clearly defined objectives and precise deadlines," he said during talks with his Ivorian counterpart Robert Beugre Mambe, on a 24-hour working and friendship visit that began on Sunday.
Lo stressed the need to make the joint committee monitoring the decisions and recommendations of the Ivorian-Senegalese Grand Joint Commission operational by the end of the year. He urged the private sectors of both countries to invest in major projects, saying bilateral trade, estimated at about 250 billion CFA francs, remains below its potential.
The talks also covered regional security, including the fight against terrorism, violent extremism and transnational organised crime, as well as monetary integration, climate resilience and the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, scheduled from 31 October to 13 November.
The Ivorian prime minister said greater private-sector involvement would help both economies make better use of their strengths, and called for more exchanges between entrepreneurs, researchers, academics and young people, the agency said.
