Madar (Niamey) - Onion prices have kept rising on wholesale markets in Niger's capital Niamey since week 35 of the year (1 September), while supply remains low, the national network of chambers of agriculture (RECA) said, as reported by the Niger News Agency (ANP) on Thursday, 5 November 2026.

After ten weeks of absence, onions from Agadez are back on the Niamey market, but in limited quantities: a 45 kg sack sells for 34,000 CFA francs, against 15,000 at the same period in 2025. RECA attributed this to late sowing by Agadez growers.

A 47 kg sack of Nigerian onions sells for 30,000 CFA francs, also higher than last year, while "the surprise of the week" was the arrival of Algerian onions at the same price of 30,000.

Local tomatoes, the only ones on the market, are stable compared with last year: a 30 kg box from Zarmaganda sells for 14,000 CFA francs and one from Konni for 13,000.

Peppers, all local from Konni and Madaoua in the Tahoua region, rose at Djemadje market from 30,000 CFA francs a sack last week to 42,000 this week because of weak supply. A 50 kg sack of aubergines sells for 14,000 at Harobanda and 17,000 at Djemadje, a price that has risen steadily for two years.

Moringa is unchanged at 13,000 CFA francs per 50 kg sack at Harobanda and 16,000 at Djemadje. Potatoes, imported from Nigeria and Algeria, sell wholesale at 650 and 750 CFA francs per kilo respectively.
