Madar (Bamako) - Three community health centres in Bamako, in Darsalam, Médina Coura and Bagadadji, have received solar installations donated by Transition President General Assimi Goïta, officially commissioned on 17 October 2026, the Malian presidency said in a statement carried by Bamada.net on Sunday, 18 October 2026.
The operation is part of a wider programme to equip a total of 50 community health centres in the Bamako district with solar installations, under the head of state's social works, according to the same source.
The ceremonies were chaired by Colonel Cheick Mamadou Chérif Tounkara, the presidency's administrative and financial director, on behalf of the president's special adviser for social works, in the presence of Health and Social Development Minister Colonel-Major Assa Badiallo Touré.
The minister described the gift as "precious support" for her department, which faces challenges in accessing energy. Tounkara urged the centres' managers to ensure "judicious use and proper maintenance" of the equipment, while the chairs of the three centres' management committees thanked the head of state for "significant support".
The source did not give the capacity or cost of the installations. Madar reported this month the arrival in Bamako of three large convoys of fuel tankers escorted by the Malian army, amid difficulties in supplying the country with fuel.
