Chad's government summoned the Central African Republic's ambassador on Sunday, October 11, to protest against a military incursion it said forces from his country had carried out the previous day in the Tissi area of Chadian territory. Several soldiers and civilians were seriously wounded, according to the Chadian authorities.
Foreign Minister Ahmed Kogri asked the ambassador to convey an official protest and a firm warning to Bangui, Agence France-Presse reported. He also demanded precise explanations about the circumstances and objectives of the operation.
Separately, the Central African Republic's Defence Ministry announced that it had conducted preventive operations, with support from its Russian allies, against people it described as foreign mercenaries. It did not identify them or provide further details about the operations.
The Chadian authorities warned against further cross-border incursions, saying such incidents were unacceptable and would not go without consequences. The statements underscored tensions between the two countries.
