Madar (Sarh) - Staff at the Dr Outel Bono provincial hospital in Sarh, capital of Chad's southern Moyen-Chari province, raised shortages of equipment and ambulances with Public Health and Prevention Minister Abdelmadjid Abdelrahim Mahamat during his visit on Saturday, 17 October 2026, news site Tchadinfos reported.
The staff pointed in particular to a lack of equipment to treat patients in the emergency ward, a shortage of ambulances and, in the maternity ward, a lack of caesarean section kits, the site said.
Accompanied by the government's delegate-general in the province, Abderamane Ahmat Bargou, the minister toured several departments, including emergencies, maternity, paediatrics, neonatology and the pharmacy, asking about patient reception, the availability of medicines, hygiene and how the services operate.
Meeting nurses and midwives, he praised the daily efforts of health workers despite the hardships of the job and urged them to redouble their efforts to provide quality care to the province's residents.
The minister also called for stronger health safety measures and asked pharmacy managers to withdraw and destroy expired medicines to protect patients. The visit is part of a tour of Moyen-Chari province, according to Tchadinfos.
