Madar (N'Djamena) - At least 12 people were killed and 3 others seriously injured in clashes between farmers and herders overnight from Sunday, October 18, to Monday, October 19, 2026, in a locality of Mouray sub-prefecture, Salamat province, in south-eastern Chad, according to Chadian authorities quoted by Anadolu Agency.

Authorities deployed security forces to restore calm, and the government's general delegate in Salamat and the president of the provincial council travelled to the site to ease tensions.

Such clashes recur in Chad and often stem from disputes over the management of livestock transhumance corridors, the same source said.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recorded 35 deadly violent incidents between January and June 2026, with a toll of 81 dead and 167 injured by June, intercommunal conflicts accounting for 66% of cases - what it called "worsening tensions between communities".
