Madar (N'Djamena) - Chad's Public Health and Prevention Minister, Dr Abdelmadjid Abderahim, on Friday, 23 October 2026 instructed technical services to immediately reactivate surveillance measures against the Ebola threat, including thermal cameras, checks at entry points and early-detection mechanisms, to prevent the disease from entering the country, news site Tchadinfos reported.

The instruction came at a coordination meeting on the cholera response, which also reviewed Ebola cases reported in neighbouring Nigeria and in Angola, the site said.

The deputy incident manager said no new cholera cases had been recorded in N'Djamena in recent days, with teams still mobilised and awareness work continuing in previously affected areas. "The situation is calm. Teams are monitoring and coordinating response activities to deal with any emergency," he said.

The World Health Organization's representative said WHO would support the ministry's measures depending on how the situation evolves on the continent, and announced an order of case-management supplies to back the country's efforts.

The meeting also discussed stepping up the fight against cholera and dengue and preparing for a possible imported Ebola case. The minister stressed reviving emergency arrangements in the provinces and building up stocks in health facilities. The prime minister's health adviser, the heads of university hospitals and private health facilities also took part.
