Madar (International) - Thirteen people were killed and 34 injured on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, when a large truck crashed into a tour bus west of Cairo, state media reported, according to AFP.

"13 individuals were killed and 34 others injured in the tragic collision between the bus and the truck on the Cairo-Asyut Western Desert Road," the state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper said, adding that the injured were being treated at a hospital in Giza and that an investigation was under way to determine the cause.

An AFP correspondent said authorities were clearing the highway as a crane lifted the bus, its entire front section ripped off, while passenger seats lay scattered by the roadside. The nationalities of the victims have not been disclosed.

Road accidents are common in Egypt and are often blamed on reckless driving, poor maintenance and uneven law enforcement. Nearly 6,000 people were killed on the country's roads last year, according to the state statistics agency, and a bus crash in Sinai last month killed 22 people, including 10 Jordanian tourists.
