Mauritania has outlined what it describes as progress in promoting human rights, reaffirming its commitment to international obligations and closer coordination with the relevant African and United Nations bodies.
Deputy Human Rights Commissioner Hadrami Mahmoud Weddad spoke at a regional meeting in Dakar during the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights' 89th session. He said the national strategy for 2024-2028 provided a framework for developing public policy and improving follow-up on international recommendations.
The official said Mauritania had accepted 229 of the 271 recommendations it received during the Universal Periodic Review before the UN Human Rights Council. He reiterated the country's commitment to continued reforms, economic, social and cultural rights, and the right to development.
