MP and IRA movement leader Biram Dah Abeid has written to ministers who left the government whose new line-up was announced on Saturday, urging them to place national interests above personal considerations and rivalries over influence and office.
In the letter, sent from abroad and received by Madar, Biram said government responsibilities were stages in service to the country. Their value, he argued, lay in their contribution to the public interest, the protection of citizens' dignity and the fulfilment of their aspirations.
He warned that these responsibilities could lose their purpose when private interests prevailed over the public interest and citizens' concerns gave way to calculations over influence and personal gains.
Differences in positions, assessments and methods should not prevent mutual respect or responsible communication, he said. Nor should they close the door to reconsidering positions and overcoming disagreements whenever national interests required it.
Biram described service to Mauritania and the protection of its overriding national interests as a shared responsibility. He called for a flexible and realistic political approach and for continued ties of fraternity, communication, dialogue and understanding, especially during difficult periods requiring wisdom and combined efforts.
He said the letter reflected national fraternity and his conviction that a shared responsibility for the country's future should outweigh political disagreements and differences in office. He expressed hope that former ministers' experience would remain a resource for serving Mauritania and its citizens.
