TAAZOUR opened a school boarding facility with capacity for 170 pupils in Kiffa, in Mauritania's Assaba region, on Monday, October 12, the social-support agency said. It is intended for lower- and upper-secondary pupils from low-income households, with beneficiaries to be selected using the national social registry.

The services announced include accommodation, meals and extra lessons. The facility has equipped rooms, a dining hall, a kitchen, classrooms for study support and multipurpose spaces, as well as sanitation and prayer facilities. TAAZOUR also reports administrative, educational and service staff, accommodation equipment and learning materials.

A digital platform will track accommodation, catering, pupil attendance and the services provided. This is the third facility in the national school boarding programme, which TAAZOUR says aims to improve schooling conditions and reduce dropout rates.

The programme began in April with boarding facilities in Bousteila and Oujeft, using the social registry as the basis for selecting beneficiaries. The Kiffa opening extends that network.

Director-general Sidi Ould Moulay Zein inaugurated the facility alongside Assaba governor Ahmedou Adahi Khteira, according to the Mauritanian News Agency. He presented the project as support for the targeted pupils to continue their education.
