The Malian army's general staff said it had carried out strikes on two vehicles that it said were carrying individuals it described as terrorists, at locations 45 and 46 kilometres southwest of Kidal. It said the strikes followed the detection of an imminent threat to a military convoy.
In a statement, the army said what it described as precision air strikes had targeted a base in the Ndaki area of the Timbuktu region on 8 October. It said intelligence indicated that the site was being used to shelter individuals it described as terrorists and store military and logistical equipment.
The statement said surveillance and reconnaissance were continuing to assess the results of the strikes, establish an accurate account of their effects and identify any remaining threats.
The general staff did not disclose casualty or material-damage figures resulting from the operations.
