Madar (Tunis) - Tunisia's draft state budget for 2027 provides 11.846 billion dinars for subsidies, including 7.09 billion for fuel and electricity, or 59.8% of the total, Tunisian news site Webdo reported on Thursday, October 22, 2026, citing the budget document.

According to the outlet, the state electricity and gas company STEG would receive 3.676 billion dinars and the refining company STIR 3.414 billion. The amounts include settling part of the two state firms' accumulated debts: about 320 million dinars of STIR's debts for 2022 and 2024, and 500 million of STEG's debts for 2017 to 2023.

The energy allocation assumes an average Brent price of 80 dollars a barrel in 2027, against 63.3 dollars in the 2026 budget assumptions, and a 2% rise in national consumption of petroleum products and electricity.

Subsidies for essential goods would total 4.036 billion dinars, or 34.1% of the total, down from a 41.7% share in 2026. The subsidy rate for household gas cylinders would be 75%, with each cylinder costing an estimated 35 dinars against a retail price of 8.8 dinars. Transport subsidies would reach 720 million dinars, up from 700 million expected in 2026.

Subsidy spending executed by the end of August 2026 stood at 4.496 billion dinars, up 6% year on year and equal to about 46% of the 2026 forecasts, the outlet said.
