Madar (Rabat) - Moroccan national security officers, backed by Auxiliary Forces, on the evening of Monday, October 19, 2026, dispersed a sit-in that preschool teachers had begun outside the parliament building in Rabat, the online newspaper Hespress reported after witnessing the intervention.

The sit-in followed a national protest by hundreds of preschool workers in the afternoon, called by a "tripartite union coordination", demanding integration into the civil service and higher wages. It coincided with Head of Government Fatima Zahra El Mansouri presenting her government's programme to both houses of parliament.

A member of the national union coordination of preschool teachers told Hespress their pay "does not exceed 3,000 dirhams" and that some receive a pension "of no more than 600 dirhams", calling for talks with the minister delegate in charge of the sector.

A teacher and union official from Jerada province said many preschool teachers are not employed directly by the Ministry of National Education but by associations, adding that they also want a statute setting out their rights and duties.

According to the news site Al Yaoum 24, the protest turned into a march through the streets of Rabat after the authorities intervened, while Hespress said security forces stepped up their presence on Mohammed V Avenue in case the protesters returned. There has been no official comment on the intervention.
