Madar (Rabat) - Morocco's new government led by Fatima Zahra El Mansouri has pledged to pass a law barring children under the age of 15 from social media platforms and dangerous online games, according to its 2026-2031 government programme, the Moroccan news site Hespress reported on the evening of Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
According to the outlet, the planned law aims to protect young people from the "illicit uses" of social media. The government also plans a national digital-childhood programme based on gradual, age-appropriate access to the digital world.
The programme includes a ban on smartphones in primary schools, more digital education in the curriculum, support and parental-control tools for families, and a "child-friendly digital space" label.
The government also pledged to upgrade child-protection centres, set up an integrated national information and tracking system with an individual file for each child, and make the National Child Protection Agency fully operational.
As reported, the programme sets no date for tabling the bill and does not say how users' ages would be verified.
