Madar (Nouakchott) - Minister of the Interior, Promotion of Decentralisation and Local Development Mokhtar Ould Ahmed Bousseif on Friday evening oversaw, at the old airport square in Nouakchott North region, the launch of new security reinforcements under the capital's dedicated security plan, according to the Interior Ministry.

In a press briefing, the ministry said the reinforcements were being deployed in line with the directives of President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani aimed at strengthening public security, protecting citizens and their property, developing crime prevention mechanisms and consolidating public order.

According to the ministry, the reinforcements include new logistical and operational resources for the National Police, among them vehicles, motorbikes and drones, as well as the deployment of additional security personnel and stepped-up foot and mobile patrols, to widen security coverage, raise readiness and speed up response times.

The ministry said the step was part of an ongoing process of developing the capital's security system, in line with the city's urban and demographic changes, and built on measures taken in recent years: first the strengthening of the security deployment in the three regions, then the development of the public surveillance and protection system in 2022, and finally the security campaigns and logistical reinforcements of 2025 and 2026.

The ministry stressed that the approach was based on strengthening proactive security through effective field deployment, the complementarity of human and logistical resources and closer coordination between the various security services and administrative authorities, in order to guarantee the safety of citizens and their property.
