Madar (Nouakchott) - The Unity and Development party has rejected the formation of the national dialogue supervision committee without consultation or fair criteria, saying the ruling majority is a space for partnership and not the preserve of a single party.
In a statement, the party said that using parliamentary representation as the sole criterion for choosing committee members ignores licensed parties within the majority, despite their support for President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and his programme during his first and second terms.
The party, led by Cheikh Boye Cheikhna Mohamed Taghiyoullah, called for the committee's composition to be reviewed and for clear, participatory criteria ensuring fairness among the majority's components, as well as for a serious dialogue to build trust and avoid internal rifts.
It said the success of the national dialogue starts with consultation and fairness within the majority, warning that its continued marginalisation raises questions about respect for the political partnership, and reaffirmed its commitment to stability and the national interest.
