Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's Ministry of Trade and Tourism on Monday, October 19, 2026, launched an inspection campaign targeting butcher shops in Nouakchott's three wilayas to check the safety of red meat on sale and its compliance with health standards.
The campaign is being carried out by teams from the consumer protection and fraud control directorate and the Mauritanian food safety agency, which took meat samples for laboratory testing and stepped up inspections to detect any possible use of dangerous substances.
The ministry said on its Facebook page that analysis of the samples would make it possible to establish violations with scientific accuracy and take the necessary action, adding that the campaign would be extended to other foodstuffs in markets and shops.
