Madar (Nouakchott) - Culture, arts, communication and parliamentary relations minister and government spokesman Mohamed Ould Bebbana said he hoped the government press briefing would become a regular space for professional dialogue, allowing journalists to raise the issues that concern the public and enabling the government to explain its decisions and policies transparently.

Speaking at his first press conference since his appointment, he said his relationship with the press would be based on making information of public interest available, in a spirit of responsibility, mutual respect and openness.

He described the press as an essential partner in informing the public and conveying citizens' concerns, saying it was natural for journalists to ask questions, seek clarifications and debate government policies, while the government's responsibility was to answer accurately and clearly to guarantee citizens' right to information.
