Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's Road Transport Regulatory Authority on Saturday launched a campaign to clean road transport stations and their surroundings in Nouakchott, in response to a call made by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani in Benichab.

The head of the authority launched the campaign from the Sahel inter-city station and the city-centre urban transport station, with the authority's staff and several transport operators. The authority said it had provided the equipment and supplies needed for the operation.

According to the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI), the campaign is to cover some 90 road transport stations across the country and will run intensively for a week.

The authority's head stressed that cleanliness is a shared responsibility, saying that awareness among transport operators and travellers is key to sustaining such initiatives and improving services for citizens.
