Mauritania's government urges parties to take practical steps towards political dialogue

Mohamed Maalainine Ould Eyih speaking at a press conference

Mauritania's vocational training minister and acting government spokesperson, Mohamed Maalainine Ould Eyih, described political dialogue as a strategic choice. He said moving to practical steps now required political parties and other political groups to complete the arrangements needed to organise it.

Speaking at Wednesday's press briefing on the cabinet meeting, Ould Eyih said preparations involved choosing a national coordinator and drawing up a roadmap in consultation with the parties concerned. He added that the mechanisms needed for a successful dialogue were now available.

The minister said the president wanted an inclusive dialogue covering all national issues, with a commitment to implement any consensus reached and put mechanisms in place to ensure its outcomes were carried out.
