Madar (Nouakchott) - Many districts of Nouakchott have suffered long power cuts since Wednesday, days after a new director took charge of SOMELEC.
Former minister Tidjani Tiam was appointed director general of the Mauritanian Electricity Company (SOMELEC) a little over a week ago.
His appointment followed the widespread outages Nouakchott experienced after fires hit two of the company's transformer stations in August, cutting power to most of the capital and nearby areas for several days.
The crisis cost the company's former director, Akhermbali Ould Mohamed Lehbib, his job; on Wednesday the Council of Ministers named him director general of the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company.
