Madar (Nouakchott) - The government on Sunday launched a campaign to clean the capital's coastline, with about 2,000 volunteers from government departments and civil society taking part.

The campaign, coordinated by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development until October 24, aims to clean 30 kilometres of beach across eight sites, where participants will remove waste.

Environment Minister Messouda Mint Baham Ould Mohamed Laghdaf said the mobilisation includes government departments, civil society organisations and pupils from schools in Sebkha district, adding that her ministry is cleaning two stretches of the coastline.
