Madar (Nouakchott) - The 21st Maghreb congress of radiology and medical imaging opened in Nouakchott on Friday, 6 November, with doctors, specialists and experts from Mauritania, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire and France taking part, according to the Sahara Medias news site.
The three-day congress, organised by the Mauritanian Association of Radiology and Medical Imaging, aims to strengthen the exchange of experience among specialists and discuss scientific and technical developments in the field, the site said.
The association's president, Dr Mohamed Badi, said hosting the congress renewed Mauritania's Arab and African tradition of welcoming scientific meetings, noting that it brought together specialists from the Maghreb, West Africa and France.
He added that radiology and medical imaging were central to diagnosis and patient care, which requires "continuous training and constant attention to technical developments".
He said the congress themes had been chosen to reflect developments in radiology, particularly artificial intelligence and interventional imaging.
The scientific programme covers gynaecological, digestive and emergency imaging, artificial intelligence and interventional radiology, through lectures and specialised presentations on the latest techniques and practices.
The association's president thanked the authorities for supporting the congress and praised the contribution of public and private partners.
