Mauritania's new government held its first cabinet meeting on Wednesday, October 14, at the presidential palace in Nouakchott, chaired by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
The meeting follows the previous government's resignation and the reappointment of Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay, who was tasked with forming a new administration. Its composition was announced on Saturday evening. Twenty members of the previous government were retained, including seventeen who kept the same portfolios.
Ten ministers left the government, including those who had held the defence, interior, economy and development, energy and petroleum, culture and arts, and health portfolios.
A press conference is expected to outline the main proposals and decisions approved, following the usual practice after cabinet meetings.
