Madar (Nouakchott) - Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug said the resilience and development project in the Senegal River valley is an opportunity to boost local development by supporting farming, expanding job opportunities and raising people's incomes.

Speaking as the project's results were presented on Thursday, he said successful development initiatives require coordination between Mauritania and its international partners, led by Spain, along with directing resources to the needs of the targeted areas and building the capacity of local producers.

The minister stressed the need to improve access to water and farmland and to raise productivity, to support the rural economy and ensure the lasting impact of projects, and said he hoped the project would improve economic and social conditions for people living in the valley.
