Madar (Nouakchott) - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has selected young Mauritanian Kafia Bilal as one of 11 young people who will form the founding members of the African Youth Co-Creators Council (AYCC), chosen from 7,500 applicants after a competitive selection process that included interviews.

Members will formally start with an onboarding and orientation programme in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from October 27 to 29, 2026, bringing together the 11 selected members.

The council, which has a two-year mandate, aims to strengthen young people's role in advising on and helping develop solutions and programmes that respond to youth priorities across Africa, notably in empowerment, governance, peacebuilding, innovation and foresight.

Kafia Bilal works on youth empowerment and peacebuilding through Scholar Force, a youth initiative that seeks to widen young people's access to skills and educational opportunities.
