Madar (Nouakchott) - The higher education and scientific research secretariat of the En avant la Mauritanie party has called for major reforms in higher education, including better university transport, more recruitment of lecturers, fair treatment of contract lecturers, stronger scientific research capacity and the development of university laboratories.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Friday, the secretariat expressed solidarity with students, noting that universities face a shortage of buses, irregular services and overcrowding in buses, classrooms and lecture halls, leading to late arrival at lectures and exams and additional financial burdens on students.

The party called for an expanded university transport network with fixed timetables, improved university infrastructure and services, more recruitment of university teaching staff, and guaranteed professional and financial rights for contract lecturers.

The statement also stressed the need for more support for scientific research, larger and better-equipped university laboratories, and stronger practical training to link universities to society's needs and national development priorities.

The secretariat urged the authorities concerned to draw up a clear reform plan with set deadlines and monitoring mechanisms, involving all actors in the university community in designing and implementing solutions.
