Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania is integrating artificial intelligence technologies into its education system "gradually and carefully", Minister of Education and Education System Reform Houda Babah said on Monday, October 19, 2026, at a ministerial meeting on AI and education in Milan, Italy, the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI) reported.
The minister said the best use of these technologies is one that develops every child's abilities and meets their needs, adding that the aim is not only to modernise teaching tools but also to improve quality, equity and equal opportunity.
She outlined national efforts in the field, including an initiative launched by First Lady Mariem Mohamed Fadel Dah to harness AI for public schools, and Mauritania's use of modern technologies to organise national competitive exams, as well as work to explore their use in school examinations.
She stressed teacher training, access for all pupils and the protection of personal data, and called for stronger international cooperation and exchange of experience.
