Madar (Nouakchott) - Mauritania's national health solidarity fund (CNASS) is preparing to open two new branches in two additional wilayas before the end of the year, bringing the number of interior wilayas covered by its services to ten, the Mauritanian News Agency (AMI) reported on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

The announcement came as the fund's director general, Amal Mint Cheikh Abdallah, received a high-level delegation from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) in Nouakchott, on a field visit to review the fund's record and its plans to extend health coverage across the country.

The delegation included the AECID director, the director for cooperation with Africa, the Arab world and Asia, the director of the Spanish fund for sustainable development, the general coordinator of Spanish cooperation in Mali and the programme officer in Mauritania, the agency said.

AECID is described as a key partner of the fund in widening access to health solidarity services. The two wilayas concerned were not named.
