Madar (Tripoli) - Libya's National Meteorological Centre issued a level-two weather warning on Thursday, October 22, 2026, for unsettled conditions expected in the north of the country from the evening of Saturday, October 24, until Tuesday, October 27, caused by the extension of a low-pressure system centred over southern Italy, the Libyan News Agency (LANA) reported.
The centre said scattered rain could be accompanied by thunderstorm cells, with amounts varying from one area to another, and that the likelihood of heavy rain was higher on Monday and Tuesday if the storm cells develop.
It warned that heavy rain could cause water to collect in low-lying areas and on roads, and could set wadis flowing in the worst-hit areas, urging citizens to stay away from wadi beds and flooded roads and the authorities to take the necessary precautions.
The Ambulance and Emergency Service ordered its branches, offices and posts across the country to move to maximum readiness for the weather expected "from Friday evening", according to its statement, and to activate teams monitoring water levels in dams and wadis.
The Tripoli Security Directorate held an expanded meeting chaired by its director, Major General Khalil Wahiba, with bodies including the National Safety Authority, the General Electricity Company, the meteorological centre and the dams department, and agreed to set up a joint committee to inspect wadi beds and make sure nothing obstructs water drainage, LANA said.
