Madar (Tripoli) - The National Centre for the Treatment and Surgery of Heart Diseases in Tajoura has introduced pulsed field ablation (PFA) to treat atrial fibrillation for the first time in Libya, using the Farapulse system, the Libyan News Agency (LANA) announced on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

The agency said the step aims to develop cardiac care and offer patients advanced treatment options inside the country, as part of an expanded national programme to treat this type of heart rhythm disorder.

The technique directs short, precise electrical pulses at the tissue responsible for the rhythm disorder, instead of the thermal energy used in some conventional ablation techniques, limiting the risk to surrounding tissue, according to the same source.

The agency did not say how many patients had been treated with the technique so far.
