Madar (Tripoli) - Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) says it is finalising, through Mellitah Oil & Gas, the operating procedures for a project to curb gas flaring at the offshore Bouri field, due for completion by the end of October, Libya Herald reported on Monday, October 19, 2026.
According to the NOC, the project involves building and installing a new unit to capture and use associated gas, along with surface equipment, pipelines and the necessary infrastructure.
It will allow the use of about 100 million cubic feet of associated gas a day, or 25 billion cubic feet a year, to boost supplies to the domestic market and power generation, while cutting carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.5 million tonnes a year.
The NOC said the project is part of its plan to reach "zero flaring" by 2030 while balancing higher output with environmental protection.
