Madar (Benghazi) - The Speaker of Libya's House of Representatives, Al-Salihin Abdulnabi, on Friday, October 23, 2026, discussed with the head of the National Planning Council ways to draw up an urgent plan to rationalise public spending and protect public funds, as well as a study on preparing a plan to adjust the dollar exchange rate against the Libyan dinar, the Libyan News Agency (LANA) reported.

The meeting, held at the House's offices in Benghazi, also covered diversifying sources of income and preparing a comprehensive vision on the matter as soon as possible, the agency said.

The two sides agreed to draw up a list of Libyan experts in economics, banking, oil and finance, with a view to meeting them within ten days.

The agency did not say in which direction, by how much or when the exchange rate might be adjusted.

On the same day, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya warned that continued pressure on the central bank to finance growing public spending could add pressure on the exchange rate and fuel inflation, following the House presidency's decision on the bank's leadership.
