Madar (Tripoli) - Libya's National Meteorological Centre has forecast moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms over scattered parts of the north and south-west of the country from Saturday, October 24, 2026, and over the following two days, warning of water accumulating in low-lying areas and local wadis flowing, the Libyan News Agency (LANA) reported.

In its daily bulletin, the centre said clouds would build on Saturday evening over Ras Ajdir, Sirte, the Jafara plain and the Nafusa mountains, with moderate to heavy rain reaching the Gulf region and the Benghazi plain up to Emsaed from Sunday.

In the south-west, thundery rain is expected over Ghadames and nearby areas, extending on Sunday to the border areas with Algeria, Ghat, Ubari, Sabha and Murzuq among others, with some wadis likely to flow. The centre expects maximum temperatures to fall from Sunday and intermittent rain in the north until the end of the week.

The Ministry of Water Resources' dams department instructed supervisors of dams in the western region and its measurement and monitoring team to raise their readiness, as water may flow from upper catchment areas into the reservoirs, and to step up monitoring in coordination with the dams control room.

The emergency committee of the Government of National Unity's Ministry of Local Government called on all municipalities to raise their readiness and urged residents to stay away from wadi beds, low-lying roads and areas where water collects, and to report emergencies on 1415.
