Madar (International) - Egypt's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that Cairo rejects the Libyan House of Representatives' ratification of the memorandum of understanding signed in 2019 between Fayez al-Sarraj's Government of National Accord and Turkey on delimiting maritime jurisdiction zones in the Mediterranean.
In an official statement, the ministry said Egypt considers the memorandum "null and void and without legal effect", stressing that its ratification has no legal consequences with regard to Egypt.
The ministry said the memorandum contravenes the rules of international law and the provisions of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea on delimiting exclusive economic zones and the continental shelf, and infringes Egypt's sovereign rights in the region.
