Madar (Algiers) - Algeria's Independent National Authority for Elections (ANIE) on Monday, October 19, 2026, published provisional results of its review of candidacy files for the municipal (APC) and provincial (APW) assembly elections scheduled for November 28, according to a statement carried by Algerian media.
According to the statement, 3 of the 5,631 lists submitted for municipal assemblies were rejected (0.05%), as were 6 of the 434 lists for provincial assemblies (1.38%), because of missing signature forms or incomplete files.
Candidates aged 40 or under make up 54.02% of the total, women 11.86% and university graduates 48.48%.
ANIE said rejected candidates may appeal to administrative courts and that they can be replaced through its provincial coordinators until October 28, 2026.
Grounds for rejection included missing documents, not being registered on the constituency's electoral roll, being under 23 on polling day, final custodial sentences, unsettled tax status, and being "publicly known for links with dubious money and business circles".
